Day 1: Edinburgh to Dundee – A Journey Through Bridges, Castles, and Coastal Charm

Your adventure begins in the vibrant city of Edinburgh, as you head north across the majestic Queensferry Crossing. This striking cable-stayed bridge, opened in 2017, offers spectacular views of the Firth of Forth—a fitting start to your scenic journey.

Our first stop is Dundee Law, a 572-foot (174-meter) extinct volcanic hill that offers stunning views of Dundee, the River Tay, and beyond. Formed 400 million years ago, it’s rich in history, from Iron Age fortifications to roles in both World Wars. At its summit stands a striking war memorial honouring local soldiers from World War I and II. Next you continue to Glamis Castle, one of Scotland’s most enchanting landmarks. A short drive brings you to Kinneff Kirk, a small and unassuming church, holds an extraordinary place in Scotland’s history. Following the dramatic smuggling of the Honours of Scotland from Dunnottar Castle during Oliver Cromwell’s siege, they were secretly hidden here in 1651 to protect them from being destroyed. The kirk’s quiet and modest setting belies its role in safeguarding Scotland’s royal heritage. 

You will then journey to Cairn oMount, a scenic mountain pass in the Grampian Highlands, renowned for its breathtaking views over Aberdeenshire. This historic route, steeped in legend and natural beauty, provides a glimpse into Scotland’s rugged landscapes

End your day in Banchory, a tranquil town nestled in the heart of the Highlands. Stroll along the River Dee, unwind in a cozy inn, or simply relax and take in the peaceful surroundings.

Day 3: Banchory to Inverness via Balmoral Castle, Corgarff Castle, Corgarff Viewpoint, Aviemore, Fort Augustus, Invermoriston Falls

Your journey begins with a visit to Balmoral Castle, the Scottish home of the Royal Family. Nestled in the heart of Royal Deeside, the castle and its grounds offer a glimpse into royal life. Explore the gardens, grounds, and exhibitions showcasing the castle’s history.

After Aviemore, you journey to Fort Augustus, traveling along part of the historic Old Military Road. This 18th-century route, built to suppress Jacobite uprisings, takes you through the heart of Scotland’s most dramatic landscapes, including rugged hills and serene glens. In Fort Augustus, located at the southern tip of Loch Ness, you can explore the charming village, walk along the Caledonian Canal, and enjoy the stunning views of the loch.

Day 4: Inverness to Edinburgh – Echoes of the Past and Majestic Views

Step onto the poignant grounds of Culloden Battlefield, the site of the final, fateful battle of the Jacobite Rising in 1746. At the visitor center, vivid exhibits and personal accounts bring this pivotal moment in Scottish history to life.

Nearby, visit Clava Cairns, a mystical Bronze Age site with ancient stone circles and burial cairns. Peaceful and evocative, it offers a serene contrast to the battlefield’s sombre history.

Continuing your journey, you stop at the House of Bruar, an upmarket shopping destination known for its Scottish produce and crafts. Enjoy a leisurely lunch here before heading to your next destination. 

Depending on the time and weather, you have the option to stop at Queen’s View, a stunning viewpoint overlooking Loch Tummel. The view is one of the most photographed in Scotland and is well worth a visit if conditions allow.
